St Peter

One of the most wonderful place of centre of Rome

The area of St. Peter is part of one of the historical districts in Rome, the Prati area, a wonderful place representing the ancient and modern Rome and with famous squares and museums…

Inside the palaces umbertini, which are typical of this place, there are a lot of Bed & Breakfast and Holiday Flats. St. Peter is one of the most sought-after sites by the Rome visitors, since you can go on foot and visit some of the most important places in the city; there are a lot of public transport, in particular the line A of the subway whose stops are “Ottaviano” and “Cipro”; you can see the main shopping streets which are full of shops, pubs and restaurants and you could peacefully stay in one of the surest areas in Rome.

You could see the Basilica of St. Peter as well as the Vatican museums and you could be affected deeply by the sight of the big Michelangelo’s works which were painted in fresco in the Chapel Sistina …

When you left the Basilica you will be again surprised to see another important artist’s big work: St. Peter’s Square and the spectacular colonnade, a symbolic embrace of the church to its believers, that is a masterpiece designed by Bernini.

After visiting the square in the daytime, we advise you to come back in the night-time, it will be an exciting experience.. In a magic glow, a soft light will shine upon the Basilica and its dome in the big silent square which is nearly empty.. The streetlights of via Della Conciliazione will go on and  if you walk along it you will be in front of Castel Sant’Angelo, a stately and ancient building.

Being built as a funeral mausoleum of the Emperor Adriano, it was changed repeatedly during the time, until in the 10th century Pope Niccolò III moved the Apostolic See through the construction of a passage protected by the Basilica of St. Peter as far as the inside of the fortress, that is the famous Passetto.

Between ancient and modern

These are only some of the historical and artistic beauties of that area. As we have mentioned in the beginning, one of its features is the difference between ancient and modern, such as the picturesque alleys of the historical district Borgo which border vital, lively and modern streets, as for example via Cola di Rienzo or via Ottaviano, which are full of fashionable shops, trendy places and restaurants.
